  • Funny memory with Mark:

Sitting with Mark and Dave in my dining room brainstorming a script for an upcoming YL sketch. We came up with the idea of selling free stuff as a fundraiser. Free old donuts from Dunkin donuts and Free air. I think I videoed him dumpster diving in the back of DD and filling bottles of free air behind a gas station. I am laughing right now .

Mark is not only hilarious but he is a solid , great person. • How long have you known Mark?29 years
  • Three words to describe Mark: Confident Caring Courageous
  • If Mark created a nickname for you, what is it and where did it come from?

Get Down. It came from the mysterious world of Mark Shull’s inner workings.

  • Funny memory with Mark:

It was the summer of 1995 or 1996? when Mark took his first venture into student ministry on the Famous 8th Grade Trip. There are a ton of great memories from that trip (five minutes right around the corner) and it seemed that Mark was captured by the call into student ministry. He provided amazing leadership on that trip. I invited him to start coming to Maumee Young Life Club that fall. The funny memory I have is how Mark worked so hard to keep his cool when he first started coming to club. He would stand in the back, keep his coat on, look uncomfortable, and never sing or clap. Slowly, with each new club, he started positioning himself along the outside wall, but getting closer to the front each week. The coat came off and he started uncomfortably singing and clapping. By the end of the year, Mark was up front and leading singing with reckless abandon. He had totally and thankfully lost his cool. As we all know, he went on to lead the Young Life Team at Maumee High School that reached legendary growth and influence.

  • How has Mark impacted your life?

Mark is a true friend and a master encourager. I first got to know Mark when I started playing pick-up basketball with Mark on Friday nights at Gateway Middle School in Maumee where Mark would encourage this former wrestler with little skill on the court to “take the shot.” Mark has been a great encourager in my life. He has the gift of encouragement and does it with authentic sincerity and effectiveness. I always leave my time with him feeling more confident. I see Mark now pouring this gift into raising his sons and I so admire the father that he is to his boys.

  • What do you think Mark’s legacy will be? What is his lasting imprint on the world?

There are already a long line of people who have been encouraged by Mark to achieve success in ways they would not have dreamed. I am one of them.

  • Anything else you’d like to say to wish Mark Happy 50th Birthday!

I love you brother. I look back on our time in ministry together as one of the highlights of my career. We had so much enjoyment and God worked mightily through us to change a lot of eternities for people. I regret only that are not still doing ministry together. The legend of Shull continues.

  • How long have you known Mark?almost 25 years!
  • Three words to describe Mark: passionate, smart, energetic
  • If Mark created a nickname for you, what is it and where did it come from?

I think there may have been a few over the years, all from YL trips and events. Not sure he created it, but “stick boy” and later “stick” seemed to “stick” with him the most.

  • Funny memory with Mark:

I’ll never forget van trips with Mark at the wheel, barely paying attention to the road (before cell phones! the man loves a good story and tells it mostly with his hands!).. The most memorable had to be the trip back from a camp visit in Indiana where a divided highway merged and we were on the wrong side of the road and we were shouting “DOUBLE YELLOW LINES, DOUBLE YELLOW LINES” but he was mid story and didn’t catch on until the last second as a truck was fast approaching!

  • How has Mark impacted your life?

Much more than he probably knows. He has been a constant encouragement and an example of integrity and courage. He was a dear friend and mentor in Toledo and CT.

  • What do you think Mark’s legacy will be? What is his lasting imprint on the world?

Many, many, many transformed lives due to his love for Jesus and willingness to be generous will all that God has given him. He led many to Jesus and many others have benefited from his example and faith. Mark’s steady dependability and depth of friendship has brought calm to many people’s storms over the years, including mine. He also brings laughter to any situation (appropriate or not ;-)).

  • Anything else you’d like to say to wish Mark Happy 50th Birthday!

Love you brother! Miss you tons! Blessings to you on this milestone. You have been faithful and I know the Father is pleased with you!
